From the Founder: Fitness Tips for Busy Moms - Wear Lark

Child playing outside in Lark AdventurewearAs a busy momma to two boys under 5 and owner of Lark Adventurewear, I know first hand how hard it can be to work out, get in shape, and eat healthily. We all have our own fitness journey — but in the last 2 months, I've really made it a priority to take care of my health after pushing it to the side for years as if I wasn’t already busy enough! Grab your workout gear and get your little Larks into their toddler activewear, because I want to share some tips that have helped me create a healthy routine and have led to me working out every single day in 2021!

5 Fitness Tips to Keep You Active With a Toddler at Home

  1. Carve Out Small Amounts of Time to Start

Consistency is key. Even if you start by doing 10 minutes of movement every day, it’s better than nothing. Small changes in movement become solid habits over time! At the beginning of your journey, it can be easy to compare yourself to others which shouldn’t be the case. To get you motivated, put on your cutest workout gear that matches your little Lark’s toddler activewear!

Since you have little ones running around, you might not be able to head to the gym for a workout. Starting out with at-home workouts are perfect for those who don’t have time to sneak out of the house or don’t feel comfortable working out in a gym yet. It’s important to remember that everyone has to start somewhere and it may take some getting used to to find the right routine for you. Me personally, I love my Peloton for an at-home workout.

  1. Try To Get It Done First Thing in the Morning

I know I’m exhausted by lunchtime with early-rising kids that are extremely active! There are also a lot of benefits to working out in the morning versus the evening. Fewer distractions are definitely a huge plus, but you also get the chance to beat the heat in the warmer months. You will be able to feel comfortable during your activity instead of feeling sticky from the humidity and sweat!

Making sure that you have your “me time” before the kiddos are awake will give you that extra boost of energy to push through the rest of the day. You’ll feel accomplished even before you get your little ones dressed in their toddler activewear for the day!

  1. Get the Family Involved

Try different workouts they might enjoy too. My boys ask to do a 5-minute dance workout and we make them attempt yoga on the weekends and make it a family affair! Getting the family involved in your workout routines can set them on the right path for healthier routines growing up and gives your family a chance to bond.

Letting each member of your family choose a new exercise routine each day can be a fun way to change it up, get everyone moving, and connect more. Even turning commercial breaks into dance parties can be a way for you and your family to get moving!

  1. If Your Kiddos Are Old Enough, Tell Them About Your Fitness Goals

“Mommy is really trying to workout 30 minutes today and work on being more active. Can you help me?” If you feel comfortable letting your little Larks in on your fitness goals, it can set a great example for them. As their parents, they notice everything that you are doing! If you are taking steps to get active, your kiddos might just want to join in with you.

Having fun with the goals you set could mean setting rewards for milestones met. Whether it’s a new toy, a special treat, or a new set of toddler activewear from Lark Adventurewear

  1. Don’t Feel Guilty!

Taking care of yourself and your body will help you be a better parent and live a longer life. I used to feel bad for taking time out of the day to work out when there were 8,000 other things to do. Once I started to prioritize fitness like a task for work or making lunch for the kids, it helped to ease my momma guilt.

Being a momma can be such an amazing and rewarding experience, but it can also become draining at times Mom guilt is real. It’s so important to take time for yourself and your body! Setting the precedent for your little Larks to be active and take care of themselves is something they will remember forever.
