Spring is on the way, and in honor of this splendid season, we thought we’d share some ideas for “signs of spring” nature walks with your little adventurer! Your child can use all their senses on a fun jaunt, whether it’s around your neighborhood, on a hike, at the park, or even just in your yard. On a typical spring day, your baby will also need fewer layers—hurray! We recommend our infant activewear, with our natural wicking fabric, which will keep infants and toddlers dry, sweat-free and comfortable. It’s almost time to venture out and hunt for spring! No more sweaty babies!
What to watch for:
Budding grass, trees and flowers such as daffodils and crocuses: Let your toddler smell, touch and have fun! Our baby clothes are the perfect play clothes for being outdoors and delighting in the dirt and nature.
Birds’ nests: Since the trees aren’t yet in full bloom, it should be easier to spot already built nests, and those that are still in process.
Birds singing: Listen closely! Depending on where you live you might hear the House finch, the Fox sparrow or the American robin singing.
Bird migration: In early spring, if you look up, you may see kingfishers, cowbirds, meadowlarks, woodpeckers, mourning doves, or field sparrows.
Butterflies: Keep your eyes peeled, and it’s possible you could catch a glimpse the earliest spring butterflies such as Brimstone, Small Tortoiseshell, Peacock and Comma butterflies gliding though cool air.
Bugs such as caterpillars and worms: If worms are not a harbinger of spring, then we don’t know what is! Let your baby observe them for a while.
The earthy smell of spring: One of the best smells and one that can never be replicated…a mixture of grass, dampness, rain and soil. Spend a moment and breathe it in.
Baby animals: Many animals are born in the spring. If you’re lucky, you may discover some in your travels!
Enjoy this wonderful time of new beginnings and growth!
