STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, which are areas that your little Larks should be comfortable with now to excel in the future. Exposing kiddos to STEM as early as possible can create the next generation of innovators, builders, and problem solvers. Finding fun games, crafts, and other fun activities that incorporate STEM is an excellent way to show your kiddo how fun these subjects can be. Here are 4 different STEM activities your kiddo can play while staying comfy and cozy in our bamboo baby clothes.
4 Activities to Get Your Kiddos Interested in STEM
Dress your little Lark in our bamboo baby clothes to stay comfortable while having fun learning about STEM.
1. Cloud in a Jar
Using a cloud in a jar will explain to your kiddo what the water cycles are and how it rains. Image courtesy of Cool Science Experiments Headquarters.
This project will teach your kiddo about condensation, water cycles, and the states of matter. You won’t have to worry about making an extra trip to the craft store because you’ll only need simple household items for the cloud in a jar. With our naturally stain-resistant bamboo baby clothes, you won’t have to worry about a mess being made by your kiddo either. Adjust this experiment for your little ones into one for your older kiddos by using two different methods to create a cloud and open a discussion about the science behind water cycles and the globe’s environment.
What you’ll need:
- Jar with a lid
- Hot water
- Ice
- Hairspray
2. Wagon Wheel Pasta Gear Train
Show your little Lark how gears work and why we need them with fun-colored pasta. Image courtesy of Momgineer.
Explore the function of gears with fun pasta that you can even dye in different colors. Find the most circular wagon wheels you can from your pasta box and use them to demonstrate to your little Larks how gears work. Dyeing the pasta different colors is by no means necessary, but can be another outlet for your kiddo’s imagination while they build their wagon wheel pasta gear train. Lining up the gears into a train and spinning them with the toothpicks will display the effect gears have on each other.
What you’ll need:
- Wagon wheel pasta (dyed if desired)
- Toothpicks
- Cardboard box
3. Oreo Moon Phases
The phases of the moon can be complicated to grasp for your little one, so teach them with Oreos. Image courtesy of The STEM Laboratory.
Want to entertain your little Larks while teaching them STEM and giving them a snack all at the same time? The Oreo moon phases activity will show your kiddos why and how the moon has different shapes and sizes with delicious cookies. Have a discussion about the differences between night and day, what shape the moon is, and where the light goes that shines on the moon. These introductory questions and answers will set your kiddos up to understand why they are carving out the cream of an Oreo. After this, your little Larks will be remembering the phases of the moon every time they look up into the sky.
What you’ll need:
- A container of Oreos
- 1 baseball-sized ball
- 1 globe or large-sized ball
- Flashlight
- Black construction paper
4. Coding a LEGO Maze
Coding can be a future path for your little Lark in a world that is always expanding its technology.
Understanding how to code can be extremely valuable to the kiddos of the world right now. Technology is currently very prominent and it will only become more and more prevalent as the years go on. You can print out a LEGO Maze activity and start them on the basics of coding as early as ages 5 or 6. There are numerous different programming languages to learn, but the most important part for a beginner is understanding the commonalities between these languages -- this is exactly what these LEGO mazes are all about. With multiple different levels of difficulty, your little Lark will become a coding expert in no time.
What you’ll need:
- Coding a LEGO Maze printable
- LEGOs
Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics are all subjects in school that your kiddos should be able to have fun in and learn a lot at the same time. It has been accepted to find STEM boring and uninteresting, but that can be changed with the different activities you use to describe it to your kiddos.
